I came back from OggCamp 2011 completely inspired to contribute something back to the Linux community after sitting in on Lorna Jane Mitchell’s talk about Open Sourcing your career. Now, I am not a technical geek, and know little or nothing about code, applications or programming but what I lack in technical abilities, I more than make up for in social skills, networking and making things happen. So I have joined the Lincolnshire LUG mailing list and emailed the members with an offer to take over the running/relaunch of the LUG, which has been dead for nearly 2 years! I had previously discussed whether LUG’s were still viable/useful when I guest presented on The Dick Turpin Roadshow episode six.
I’m hoping to get a few responses to see whether it is viable to establish the LUG again, and I’m optimistic that it will happen. I’m certainly fired full of enthusiasm to make a go of it. If I build it, they will come

Go for it!
Even if you only have a small few to begin with, just having a regular consistent meeting place to share ideas and questions makes for a very good start.
The hard part is then to encourage others to have the confidence to share their interests and ideas to a group…
Good luck!

Hi Martin
Thank you for your words of encouragement. I agree, that LUG’s should meet regularly – something that the Lincolnshire LUG hasn’t been doing. Hoping we can change all of that!

I have nothing but admiration for what you are trying to achieve. The Lincs LUG has been dead for too long and it would be fantastic to see it get going again. You rock!
P.S. Maybe you could post a new blog with a link to the current conversation that is happening on the mailing list? It might encourage a few more people to get involved.
Thanks for the tip; I’ve blogged an update.
