And all the tech fitted!

Hello again from a very sunny Lincolnshire.  Well it has been 4 weeks today since we moved into CrunchBang Towers and time that I updated my blog.

The move went smoothly and we even managed to get the beds made up to collapse into Friday night.  Saturday dawned (our 1st wedding anniversary) and Philip decided to accompany me food shopping (he doesn’t normally bother!)  I got all excited thinking he was going to buy me some flowers, but no, I was dragged off to view TV’s instead.  Unbeknownst to me, Philip had already spied the TV he wanted and was now trying to convince me that we should buy it jointly as our anniversary present to each other (he is so romantic).  So buy it we did, all 40 inches of flatscreen in glorious HD only to get it home and find that it didn’t fit into the space that Philip had measured for it!  After much discussion we decided to place it on the mantlepiece, only to discover that it was too big to go on there too.  His face was a picture when he realised that it may have to go back!  Philip finally got it mounted on the wall above the fireplace – he doesn’t normally do DIY but when faced with returning a new tech toy, then he will turn his hand to anything given the right motivation!

We also treated ourselves to a Virgin 50mb broadband connection.  Our old house only had 0.5mb connection which got really frustrating at times.  Thanks also goes to yamatt, who let me know that O2 Jogglers were back on sale at £49, so I ordered Philip one.  Tech is slowly taking over the new house, and I know there is more to come.  Philip is already dropping hints on the CrunchBang forums that he wants a Samsung netbook.  Guess I should start looking for a bigger house already, and I was just starting to get used to this one!

Nervous excitement abounds

Tomorrow is the BIG day!

Not only will we see whether the UK will get a new government and Prime Minister, but it’s also the day Philip and I say “goodbye” to rented accommodation and “hello” to a 25 year mortgage.  We must be mad!

As we will have such a long, busy day ahead of us tomorrow, we offered Emma, our daughter, the option of skipping school and helping us move instead.  “Fancy a day off school tomorrow to help us move, Emma” says Philip.

“No chance, I don’t want to miss German, plus I will just get in your way” replies Emma!

OMG, when did she grow-up and get all sensible and responsible?  At her age I was wagging school at any opportunity (I never went to geography for 3 months!).  Philip was just dumb-struck by her response. I think we both expected her to say yes – parents are supposed to know their kids, aren’t they?!

It seems that change is definitely in the air, and I for one can’t wait.  Tomorrow is the start of a new adventure – bring it on!

Greetings Earthlings!

After a month of having the domain for this blog set up by Philip, I have finally got around to using it (much to Philip’s amusement).  My reasons for resisting until now – too busy at work and too busy planning a house-move (not to mention too scared, as I’ve never done this blogging thing before!)

It’s chaos in our house at the moment; packing boxes everywhere.  We move on Friday into our new house, affectionately named CrunchBang Towers by Fabsh of Linux Outlaws during an interview with Philip and I last month.  Philip is already panicking about broadband being switched off before he backs up the servers, and has grand plans for wirelessly networking our new house with Ethernet-over-Power (Thanks for the tip, Daviey!)  We’ve not even moved in yet and he wants to start drilling holes in walls – yikes!

We have also just returned from a fantastic weekend attending OggCamp 2010 held in Liverpool – a dedicated blog post will follow shortly.

That’s all for now folks!  More packing to do.
